History of our San Diego Funeral Home

Our San Diego funeral home was founded in 1977 by two well-known men in San Diego’s community – Irving Krantz & Norbert “Bert” Schloss. These two men recognized that no funeral home in San Diego was able to properly offer funeral services that followed Jewish death rituals and practices. They took it upon themselves to serve Jewish families in San Diego during one of life’s most difficult moments. Opening and operating a funeral home is no easy task, and it is that much more difficult as a Jewish funeral home. However, Krantz and Scholoss knew the importance to the Jewish community that their loved ones be given a proper goodbye under Jewish tradition.

More than 40 years later, AM Israel Mortuary has established itself as one of the best funeral homes in San Diego. We continue to provide traditional Jewish funeral services, but we have also branched out to offer more conservative options and we look to blend traditional practices with modern day demands. Overall we have evolved with the times and have made our funeral service offerings as flexible as possible while still respecting our Jewish roots.

Our staff is dedicated to helping San Diego’s Jewish families when they lose a loved one. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
