On one of the first chapters in our textbook there was a story about a boy and his donkey. In French, donkey is l'ane. However, the text book actually translated it in english as jackass. Everyone in class had a good laugh.

At our lunch table that day, everyone wanted my cookies. Judy always packed me a great lunch! (KFC, Pringles chips, an apple and some cookies for example!) I wasn't happy! I said you're all a bunch of l'anes!

Somehow it stuck and everyone started calling each other l'ane. It got out of hand. We would be in the hallways screaming l'ane at each other. It actually got to the point where it meant friendship as much as it did calling someone a jackass when they did something dumb.

My best guess was there probably a point where more than 100 of us were using it nonstop. I can't even really explain how it got to legendary status so quickly in our hallways and even outside class.

One day one of my best friends was over playing video games. My mom got home and asked for help with groeceries and to throw out the garbage. Terrible timing lol! We were in the heat of battle. I yelled out "Not now L'ane!" My friend Dave asked "Did you just say not now L'ane or not now Mom?" When I said "L'ane", we both could not stop laughing. Of course mom said get to it so we had to pause our game.

As we walked to the car, Dave turned to me and said "What a M'ere de L'ane!". We both lost it. From that day forth she became known as M'ere de L'ane not only to Dave and me but all of my of friends.

It got to the point where it became a loving statement even in times where you may be annoyed or upset etc.

Over the years it just became how I greeted her before I kissed her hello and when we said goodbye.

Anyway, there are lots of stories I could post but this one means the most to me and I will cherish it always.

Love and miss you M'ERE DE L 'ANE!!!
