Mark & Laureen, My sincerest condolences to you and the family. Karen was a bright light to all us. Her love of art, language, travel, dance and yoga was truly inspirational. Karen was my yoga instructor for many years. She taught me that I "did not need to stand on my head or turn my body into a pretzel" to enjoy yoga practice. She truly put her students at ease with her gentle soul. I also enjoyed attending plays, musicals and concerts with her. I am a better person for having her as a friend, and for that I am grateful. She will be missed.

Story shared: Our favorite substitute teacher

Ms. Kadens was Arleta High School's favorite substitute. She was always so pleasant to work with and extremely respectful to our students. Even though schools are not supposed to have "preferred subs," Karen was at the top of our preferred substitute list to call when someone was out. The Arleta Mustangs will miss her greatly. Our deepest condolences are extended to Karen's family.

I was a former [retired] co-teacher at LAUSD. Karen and I were friends at this location. We shared amusing stories about our lives... and shared many laughs also. I so admired her bilingual brilliance and spirit. Though we lost contact when I was transferred I considered her a dear and decent person. My condolences to her family. RIP forever.
